My smoke detectors were original from when I purchased my home 20 years ago. I often thought about replacing the old-yellowing smoke detectors, but thought it was a job for a fire-pro or electrician because they were hard-wired to the house. One Saturday, I took one of the old smoke detectors off the ceiling, found the serial number and model name, and inspected how they were installed - seemed easy enough.I looked for the replacement or "newer" model on Amazon, and found what I wanted in an affordable package of six(6) NEW smoke detectors and ordered. When they arrived, they looked great, easy instructions, already had 9 volt batteries installed with each unit, and no re-wiring was needed - they simply plugged in using the same pigtail as the old unit. I feel so much better having these installed and they look great!I installed this three years ago and this week it started to alarm. No obvious reasons for the alarm, there is no smoke and certainly no fire. Eventually I had to disconnect it. Maybe the battery is bad? I don't care, I will just replace the unit. Tried to purchase the same unit but it was not available so I bought the one below. The great news is that teh one below was completely compatible as a replacement I did not even have to replace the ceiling mounting ring (base mount), I just plugged the connector in and inserted the new one into the exiting base plate.https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B00O8MVW3U/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1I ordered the wrong product. I meant to get 3 battery operated smoke alarms along with the hard wired ones I ordered, but mistakingly got these. I didn’t open them til yesterday when the guy got here to install them. I realize the return period has expired, but could I please, please exchange them for 3 battery operated ones?It was quick and easy. We replaced our 16 year old FirstAlerts with these and are happy we did. The peace of mind is so gratifying it is hard to describe. Like insurance, you never appreciate this product until the moment you need it.Bought these to replace our old ones. Exact same model but a bit beyond the 10yr reliable usage they state. Easy in and out for the units. My only suggestion is to buy some better Duracell/Energizer 9v batteries while ordering these to replace the ones that are supplied with units. It’s been what, a month and woke up to the gentle battery low beep from one of the six we replaced. So ended up just replacing the battery in all of them…Replaced 20+ year old detectors that were starting to intermittently beep. Easy installation. Working Great. Great price compared to big box stores. It was time to replace some of the detectors in my 8-year-old home. This 6-pack was a great value. The new ones plug right back in!These smoke detectors were a great replacement for my 10 y/o ones. Contrary to the instructions I did not need to replace the mounting rings. Just pulled the plug out of the old one and plugged it into the new ones. If your ones are a different model number you may have to change the rings. On the old ones I have 7 of them and never had a failure or false alarm. I contribute this the the fact that I change the batteries yearly and use a blower to blow out dust at each battery change. Be careful of claims for 10 yr. batteries. This means shelf life and not in use.
